Geopolitical clarity supports uptick in European equities

JPMorgan European Discovery Trust plc

European stock markets moved higher on Thursday morning as investors responded to a perceived softening in recent geopolitical tensions involving the United States and Greenland. The change in rhetoric from US leadership appeared to ease immediate concerns over potential trade disruptions, helping European indices rebound from earlier weakness.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index saw gains at the open, with similar moves across key national benchmarks including the DAX, CAC 40, FTSE 100 and IBEX 35. This followed a midweek sell-off driven by market unease over suggestions of possible US tariffs linked to strategic interests in Greenland.

The reduced pressure allowed a return to equities, particularly in economically sensitive sectors. Automakers and telecommunications firms were among those to benefit from improved sentiment.

JPMorgan European Discovery Trust plc is an investment trust company. The Investment Trust JEDT objective is to achieve capital growth from a portfolio of quoted smaller companies in Europe, excluding the United Kingdom.
