Hercules: Building its own workforce pipeline

A growing labour shortfall is forcing UK construction firms to rethink how they secure the workforce needed for project delivery. Hercules is taking the problem into its own hands by training its own labour through a fully embedded academy model.

Rather than operate as a separate initiative, the training arm is integrated into the core business. It provides accredited, job-focused programmes targeted at both new entrants and existing workers, using government-backed funding schemes to offset cost.

Several streams of funding support the model. One provides small businesses with support to upskill their teams. Another funds intensive bootcamps, typically under 16 weeks, offering free or low-cost training to adults looking to switch careers or re-enter the workforce. A third supports unemployed individuals, offering basic site qualifications, health and safety cards, and direct connections to job placements. In each case, the company controls the outcome, training candidates for roles it already knows how to deploy.

Hercules plc (LON:HERC) is a collaborative, innovative company delivering services of the highest standards within the Civil Engineering sector of the construction industry. Hercules Academy provides a comprehensive range of courses designed to equip individuals with the essential skills and knowledge required for a long and successful career in the construction industry.
