Firering Strategic Minerals plc (LON:FRG), a company rapidly progressing in quicklime and critical mineral exploration, has recently shared a promising operational update on its Limeco quicklime project in Zambia. According to a report by the Shard Capital Research Team, Firering’s efforts to fast-track the project have set the stage for a crucial phased commissioning of its initial kiln, expected by the close of Q4 2024.

A primary focus for FRG has been refining the efficiency of Limeco’s operations. One major development has been the near completion of significant upgrades to the first of eight planned vertical kilns. This enhancement is expected to markedly boost operational efficiency and bring down running costs, an important consideration as Limeco aims to establish itself as a key supplier in the region.

The report highlights the strong foundation of FRG’s strategy: “The newly installed impact crusher is performing well, with around 15,000 tonnes of kiln feed already stockpiled on-site,” says the Shard Capital Research Team. This stockpile means that FRG can commence production almost immediately once the first kiln is operational, offering an optimistic outlook for the project’s revenue potential from the get-go.

In addition to these improvements, the project has benefitted from a successful pilot kiln test, demonstrating promising burn results that reinforce Limeco’s quality control capabilities. Limeco’s commitment to product quality has also helped to draw positive attention, as the company engages in off-take discussions to secure demand ahead of its first sales. Strong local interest reflects Zambia’s rising need for quicklime, particularly as the Zambian Ministry of Mines and Minerals seeks to ramp up copper production over the coming years.

The next phase of growth will see FRG further optimise production processes. An additional efficiency boost is anticipated with the installation of a coal gasifier, a more economical alternative to heavy fuel oil. Shard Capital’s report notes that this first gasifier is now on-site, with full installation underway. With all eight kilns scheduled for commissioning by Q3 2025, FRG aims to meet increasing regional demand for quicklime, a critical reagent in copper concentrate processing.

Final Thoughts

Firering Strategic Minerals plc’s Limeco project showcases the company’s commitment to efficiency, quality, and local market needs. With robust operations and an accelerated timeline, Firering is well-positioned to make an impact in Zambia’s evolving mining landscape. As the Shard Capital Research Team states, “We are encouraged with the continued progress being made,” adding that the timely completion of this project aligns FRG with Zambia’s growth targets for copper production—a boon for all stakeholders involved.
