Scotch Corner gets its name from its historic role as a decision point for travellers heading to Scotland.
The junction is near Richmond in North Yorkshire, where the A1(M) meets the A66. Travellers heading north would reach this point and choose whether to continue towards eastern Scotland or turn west towards western Scotland. That practical role gave Scotch Corner its name.
Major junctions can support commercial uses linked to traffic and regional connectivity. Scotch Corner already benefits from its position on two important routes. The A1(M) gives it a north-south role, while the A66 gives it an east-west role across the North.
The new designer village being built at Scotch Corner adds another layer to that investment case. It shows how a long-established transport location can be repositioned for retail, leisure and visitor spending. The project also underlines the value of locations that combine road access, regional reach and strong name recognition.
Scotch Corner Designer Village brings together an unrivalled array of leisure and outlet shopping. Bringing together some of the finest brands from Yorkshire, the UK and the rest of the world.
