Wizz Air passenger numbers increase 4% YOY in October

Wizz Air

Wizz Air Holdings Plc (LON:WIZZ), one of the most sustainable European airlines, has announced passenger and CO2 emission statistics for October 2024.

Wizz Air carried 5.6 million passengers during the month of October, an increase of 4.1% year on year. Seat capacity was up 3.7%YoY, despite the Pratt & Whitney GTF engine-related groundings, resulting in a load factor of 92.9%, up 40bps 70bps on last year’s 92.5%.

During the month:

–     Wizz Air announced on October 21st that it will open a temporary base in Chisinau, Moldova, commencing direct connections to 16 destinations from December 16th.

–     Wizz Air also officially opened its new €38m training centre in Rome Fiumicino on October 1st, with the facility able to provide recurrent training for over 4,800 pilots a year.

–     While still one of the leading airlines in terms of lower emissions per passenger, October saw CO2/RPK emission increase by 1.9% YoY, to 51.6 grams/RPK. This reflected flying a suboptimal fleet mix due to the GTF related groundings of some of Wizz Air’s A321neos. With that said, this was an improvement on the 52.3g of CO2/ RPK emitted in September.

–     Wizz also announced on October 21st that it is collaborating with Airbus in a SAF trial on its Barcelona to Budapest (BCN-BUD) and Brussels Charleroi to Budapest (CRL-BUD) routes.
