Ampeak Energy builds UK battery storage portfolio around Mey and Uskmouth projects

Ampeak-Energy

Ampeak Energy is a UK battery storage developer with a 2.93 GWh pipeline of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. The company, formerly known as SAE Renewables, is now focused on building large-scale battery assets in locations where grid flexibility is in growing demand.

One of the company’s biggest developments is the Mey BESS project in the north of Scotland. The site has consent for up to 300 MW/1,200 MWh. Ampeak Energy is targeting operations by the end of 2029. Its scale makes it one of the most significant assets in the company’s portfolio and an important part of its long-term growth plan.

In Wales, Ampeak Energy is advancing battery storage at the Uskmouth Sustainable Energy Park. The first project there is Afon Wysg 1, or AW1, a 120 MW / 240 MWh facility. The project broke ground in late 2025, marking a key step from planning into construction.

AW1 also stands out because of Ampeak Energy’s partnership with EDF. EDF is providing long-term grid optimisation support for the site. That partnership gives the project added commercial and operational credibility, particularly in a market where battery revenues depend heavily on how assets are managed in real time.

Ampeak Energy Limited (LON:AMP) a developer, owner and operator of sustainable energy projects. Transitioning to become a major Independent Power Producer (IPP) with a project development arm specialising in Battery Storage and Tidal Stream generation.
