Fidelity China Special Situations (LON:FCSS) has announced its monthly summary for August 2026.
Portfolio Manager Commentary
Chinese equities fell over the period. Markets were initially supported by optimism around technology and innovation, but gains later reversed as investor sentiment weakened amid geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainty. Economic data remained mixed, with inflation returning to positive territory and property activity in cities showing signs of stabilisation, although consumer spending remained subdued. Looking ahead, we remain encouraged by the outlook for Chinese equities. Government support for technology, structural reforms and measures to boost demand should support growth. Further improvement in the property market could strengthen business activity and investor confidence. Outlook remains good.
At the stock level, ByteDance contributed positively, supported by its AI strategy, strong revenue growth and improving sentiment towards TikTok’s US operations. Lenovo also performed well after reporting record revenue growth, partly driven by demand for AI-related products and services. In contrast, HashKey Holdings detracted as sentiment towards digital assets weakened. EHang Holdings also declined as the rollout of its electric aircraft progressed more slowly than expected. While we remain positive on growth potential, regulatory uncertainty and slower industry development have reduced near-term visibility.
Over the 12 months to 31 August 2026, the Trust’s NAV fell by 12.3%, compared with a decline of 6.4% for the benchmark index. The Trust’s share price decreased by 10.8%.
