Drax has reported £3.1 million of funding through the Drax Foundation, supporting more than 118,000 people across the UK, United States and Canada.
The Foundation backed 251 non-profit organisations and community groups, with activity focused on energy affordability, education, skills and nature programmes in regions linked to Drax’s operations.
Foundation-backed school energy programmes helped participating schools cut electricity bills by an average of 64%, saving around £1 million. The Foundation also supported fuel poverty services for 1,156 households through emergency fuel vouchers and practical advice. The education and skills work was also material to Drax’s local positioning. More than 28,000 children took part in STEM programmes, while 2,260 adults joined skills and employability initiatives. Drax employees delivered 155 STEM sessions in schools, helping connect the company’s workforce with local education needs.
In the United States, the Foundation supported Southern University in Louisiana with STEM and urban forestry programmes. In North Yorkshire, near Drax Power Station, funding supported employability workshops for young people.
Drax Group plc (LON:DRX), trading as Drax, is a power generation business. The principal downstream enterprises are based in the UK and include Drax Power Limited, which runs the biomass fuelled Drax power station, near Selby in North Yorkshire.
