Drax is strengthening its relationship with the Selby community as local MP Keir Mather joins the Business Panel of Selby Connected.
Selby Connected brings together businesses, community groups and public sector organisations to identify local needs and support practical projects in the area. Drax is one of the organisations involved in the partnership.
Mather joined representatives from Drax, Selby Connected and Up for Yorkshire at an open day at The Skylark Centre, a community facility near Selby.
The centre is now available free of charge to charities, voluntary organisations and community groups. It can be used for meetings, training sessions and workshops. The Skylark Centre is located within a nature reserve and includes indoor meeting space, kitchen facilities and accessible amenities. It also provides access to nearby woodland walks.
The decision to make the centre more widely available followed discussions with local organisations. Those discussions identified a shortage of suitable community space in the Selby area. Drax and Up for Yorkshire responded by opening an existing facility to local groups rather than creating a new venue.
The project also supports Drax’s wider relationship with Selby. The company has a major operational presence in the area, so maintaining strong links with local organisations, public bodies and political representatives is important.
