Drax expands early careers reach With Cruachan technician simulation

Drax Group plc

Drax has launched a new interactive simulation that lets young people across the UK take on the role of an Electrical and Instrumentation technician at Cruachan Power Station.

The simulation has been developed with Springpod and is aimed at people aged 14 to 19. It puts participants into a realistic operating scenario inside Cruachan’s Electrical, Control and Instrumentation team, where they must respond to a simulated machinery emergency and diagnose a system fault. The exercise is designed to reflect the sort of technical judgement, communication and safety awareness required in a live energy setting. Participants are asked to assess the situation, decide what to do next and explain their thinking clearly to a team leader.

Rather than relying only on site visits or classroom presentations, Drax is using a self-paced online model that can reach students regardless of location. For a business operating complex energy assets, that is relevant from a workforce planning perspective. It increases exposure to roles that are not always well understood by school-age students and may help improve the quality and range of future applicants for technical positions.

The format also gives Drax a way to engage early with potential talent at a stage when career choices are still forming. By focusing on a specialist technician role within Cruachan, the company is introducing participants to the realities of working in a controlled, safety-led operational environment where technical reliability and fast decision-making matter.

Drax Group plc (LON:DRX), trading as Drax, is a power generation business. The principal downstream enterprises are based in the UK and include Drax Power Limited, which runs the biomass fuelled Drax power station, near Selby in North Yorkshire.
