TierPoint’s latest security initiative highlights a practical example of how infrastructure decisions can carry wider significance for investors. Faced with rising dissatisfaction over the performance of its previous DDoS protection arrangements, the company chose to strengthen a core part of its service delivery model through an adaptive protection solution from Corero.
TierPoint had been experiencing disruption and slower mitigation times under its earlier setup, creating a risk that service interruptions could begin to affect client trust. For a provider focused on secure, connected data centre and cloud services, that kind of weakness has implications beyond the technical domain. It touches customer retention, brand credibility and the ability to scale without creating avoidable friction. Rather than pursue a lengthy and resource-intensive internal build, the company opted for a third-party solution that could be tested against its existing environment and integrated directly with its current Juniper router estate.
Building an in-house capability may have offered greater control, but it would also have diverted time, budget and management attention away from the company’s main service priorities. By adopting a solution that worked with existing infrastructure, TierPoint reduced the need for additional hardware investment while improving protection.
