Emerging market equities advanced on Tuesday, supported by renewed interest in artificial intelligence stocks, although political uncertainty in Brazil and upcoming central bank decisions limited confidence across global markets.
The MSCI emerging markets equity index gained approximately 0.9%, with technology shares leading the advance. South Korea’s Kospi rose around 3% as investors responded to renewed optimism surrounding AI demand and the planned US stock market listing of Anthropic, the company behind the Claude chatbot.
The filing added to interest in the AI sector following a period of uncertainty over technology valuations. Investors are continuing to assess the scale of investment required to develop AI infrastructure and whether the resulting demand can support sustained earnings growth across semiconductor manufacturers and other technology businesses.
South Korea’s technology exposure helped support the wider emerging markets index, while several markets in emerging Europe recorded more modest movements. Emerging market currencies were broadly stable against the euro, indicating that the improvement in equity sentiment had not translated into a widespread shift in currency markets.
Despite Brazil’s market volatility, the wider emerging markets sector has continued to receive support from technology-related investment. Rob Haworth, senior investment strategy director at US Bank Asset Management Group, said the election result had taken some money out of emerging market stocks, but expected the global AI build-out to continue supporting international equities.
This distinction is relevant to the outlook for emerging markets, where performance increasingly depends on the balance between domestic political and economic conditions and broader international investment trends. Technology-focused markets may continue to benefit from AI spending even when individual countries face uncertainty.
