EDX Medical is preparing to launch a new employee health screening service in the UK, giving the company a direct route into the corporate healthcare market.
The Cambridge-based diagnostics company has developed screening panels that combine general health checks with biomarker testing for major conditions including cancer, cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders. The panels cover between 40 and 80 biomarkers and more than 100 disease conditions.
EDX Medical has already reached agreements in principle with three large UK employers covering 14,000 employees. The agreements are still subject to final documentation, with testing expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. The company estimates that these initial arrangements could generate more than £2 million of revenue during the current financial year.
The service is designed to bring diagnostic testing directly into the workplace. EDX Medical plans to deploy its own nurses and logistics managers to employer sites, where employees will undergo screening and provide information on their personal and family health history. Those results will then be assessed alongside biomarker data to identify potential health risks and determine whether further investigation may be appropriate.
By managing the screening process directly, the company can control more of the customer relationship and potentially build recurring business with employers that choose to offer regular health checks to staff.
EDX Medical has spent more than 18 months developing the screening panels. The tests have regulatory approval, while the company has focused on combining multiple biomarkers into packages intended to provide comprehensive screening at competitive prices.
An estimated 148.8 million working days were lost to sickness or injury in the UK during 2025, while the wider annual economic impact associated with reduced workforce capacity, recruitment needs and lower output has been estimated at £130 billion.
