EDX Medical is expanding its employee health screening offering, using biomarker testing to assess the risk of hundreds of diseases from one or two samples.
The company is targeting employers that want to offer broader health screening to their workforces, with testing covering conditions including cancer, cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders.
Traditional workplace health checks often focus on measures such as blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and cardiovascular risk. EDX Medical’s approach is designed to test for a wider range of potential health problems, including conditions that may not yet be producing symptoms.
The screening process is designed to be completed quickly. A healthcare professional takes a blood sample and collects other information, including blood pressure and heart rate, with the company saying the appointment takes around five minutes.
EDX Medical is already using this approach in prostate cancer screening. Through the Scottish Prostate Cancer Initiative, the company says it has screened around 16,000 men across 40 companies and identified hundreds of men with prostate cancer.
The company aims to screen 25,000 men aged between 40 and 70 by the end of 2026. EDX Medical says many of the men identified with prostate cancer through the programme had no symptoms and did not know they had the disease.
The workplace provides EDX Medical with a way to reach large numbers of people without relying on individuals to arrange screening themselves. Employers can offer the testing at their own sites, while employees receive their results confidentially.
EDX Medical says employers do not receive access to individual employee results and that its reporting complies with GDPR requirements.
