About the One Nucleus Awards and Genesis Conference
The One Nucleus Awards recognise achievement across the life sciences sector, spanning research and development, investment, services and supporting activities. The Best Non-Therapeutic R&D Company of the Year category applies to companies undertaking research and development of new health technologies, including diagnostics, patient stratification, drug delivery and digital health.
Being shortlisted is a significant milestone for a life sciences company. It signals industry confidence and technological prestige across the biotechnology and healthcare ecosystem.
The finalists are selected by an expert panel of biotechnology experts and journalists from leading publications, raising Cizzle’s profile to investors and potential industry partners and adding independent credibility to the Company’s high value business proposition.
Candidate companies are assessed against published criteria covering innovation, potential impact on patient outcomes, financing and deals, leadership, and environmental, social and governance considerations.
Previous winners and finalists of the One Nucleus awards have gone on to experience major commercial acceleration, scaling their technologies, securing significant funding rounds, and landing transformative global partnerships.
The Company has also been invited to present at the Genesis conference to an audience specifically looking for collaboration and new deal flows. The “Non-Therapeutic” category provides a new focus to highlight the essential enablers of modern medicine.
The awards are presented by One Nucleus, a not for profit life sciences and healthcare membership organisation headquartered in Cambridge, as part of its flagship Genesis Conference. Now in its third decade, Genesis brings together key opinion leaders, R&D innovators, investors and industry stakeholders to discuss scientific innovation, commercialisation and investment opportunities. This year’s conference, themed “Maximising Returns from Life Science Innovation”, is expected to attract more than 400 delegates.
Being selected as a finalist, recognises our decades of research that has translated into clinical practice. The CIZ1B biomarker test is built on foundational research into cancer origins, and the CIZ1 protein’s role in epigenetic stability, led by Professor Dawn Coverley at the University of York. Her work led to the discovery of the CIZ1B protein variant and its strong association with lung cancer, and the development of molecular tools that can measure CIZ1B with high sensitivity in patients with early-stage lung cancer.
With validation in accredited laboratories the USA for clinical use, the Company’s licensing partner Cizzle Bio is now promoting the test to clinicians and patients. This will help with the detection of lung cancer in its early stages and improve a patient’s chance of survival. Similarly, Cizzle is also working with potential partners to bring the test to commercial and NHS laboratories in the UK and Europe.
