The Scottish Prostate Cancer Initiative is expanding its free PSA testing programme across Scotland, with more than 16,000 men already tested since its launch in March 2026 and a target of reaching 25,000 by the end of the year.
The initiative is holding testing events in communities across Scotland, including Falkirk and Glasgow. A Falkirk event is taking place today, 29th September, at the Asda Distribution Centre on Abbots Road, with testing available from 9am to 5pm. A further Glasgow event is scheduled for 4th October at Auldhouse Playing Fields.
The programme provides PSA blood tests to men aged 40 to 80, with the aim of increasing access to prostate testing and encouraging earlier identification of potential prostate problems. The test involves a blood sample and does not require a physical examination.
The initiative’s expansion comes against a backdrop in which there is no routine NHS screening programme for prostate cancer in Scotland. Scottish Government guidance states that there is no agreed screening programme for prostate cancer in the UK, although PSA testing can be used as part of an informed choice process and to support investigation where appropriate.
The programme’s community-based approach is designed to make testing more accessible by bringing appointments directly to local areas. Current event listings show testing taking place in Falkirk, Glasgow, Perth and other locations, with further events scheduled throughout October.
ore than 16,000 men have already taken part, while the 25,000 target represents a further expansion of testing activity during the remainder of 2026.
The programme is being delivered with the involvement of EDX Medical, while the Scottish Prostate Cancer Initiative is using local testing events to reach men who may not otherwise seek a PSA test. Its events are being promoted across communities, with appointments available through the initiative’s online booking system.
EDX Medical Group plc (LON:EDX) is a UK-based listed company focused on the development of diagnostic tests that enable personalised treatment for cancer, cardiovascular and infectious diseases.
