MeyGen accounts for more than 80% of global tidal stream generation

Ampeak-Energy

MeyGen generated 13.1 GWh of electricity in 2025, accounting for more than 80% of the 16.2 GWh produced by the global tidal stream sector, according to figures reported by Ocean Energy Europe.

By the end of 2025, cumulative global tidal stream generation had reached 127 GWh, with MeyGen contributing 83.6 GWh, approximately 66% of the total.

Alongside its generation figures, MeyGen is inspecting its longest-operating turbine after more than seven and a half years of continuous operation. The turbine has substantially exceeded its original five-year design expectation.

During its operational life, the generator completed more than two billion revolutions, while the blades accumulated over 21 million degrees of pitch movement.

The inspection provides an opportunity to assess component condition following years of operation in a high-energy tidal environment. The findings will add to the operational data needed to understand equipment durability, maintenance requirements and long-term performance.
