Matchtech targets security-cleared hiring demand

Gattaca Plc

Matchtech is targeting recruitment demand across UK sectors where security clearance is required before candidates can start work.

The requirement is common in defence, aerospace, nuclear, government technology, cyber security, engineering and critical infrastructure. In these markets, employers need candidates with the right technical skills and the right level of clearance. That reduces the available talent pool and can lengthen hiring times.

UK security vetting ranges from BPSS through to Counter Terrorist Check, Security Check, enhanced Security Check, Developed Vetting and enhanced Developed Vetting. The level required depends on the sensitivity of the role and the information or facilities involved.

Security Check, or SC, is widely used across government and national security work. Developed Vetting, or DV, is required for more sensitive positions involving access to highly classified information. Defence and aerospace roles often require SC, with DV used for more sensitive positions. Nuclear and energy roles can require BPSS or SC. Government technology and cyber security positions can also require SC.

Infrastructure and engineering requirements depend on the project. Work involving critical national infrastructure, restricted sites or sensitive plans may require clearance, while similar roles on commercial projects may not. This creates a clear recruitment constraint.

A candidate may have the technical experience needed for a role but still be unable to start without the correct clearance. Employers therefore need to assess both skills and security status when hiring. Candidates cannot apply independently for the main clearance levels. The process must be sponsored by an organisation with a genuine requirement for the individual to hold clearance.

Existing clearance can help reduce hiring delays, but it does not automatically transfer between employers. A new organisation may need to request a transfer, and eligibility can depend on factors including how long the candidate has been away from the previous sponsor and time spent overseas.

Matchtech’s recruitment model works with both security-cleared and clearance-eligible candidates.
