UKBIC’s latest webinar with Ilika focused on a central issue for battery companies: how to turn promising technology into a product that can be manufactured at scale.
The session featured Andrew Britton, Business Development Manager at UKBIC, and Denis Pasero, Product Commercialisation Manager at Ilika. Their discussion centred on Ilika’s work with UKBIC to develop manufacturing capability for its Goliath pouch cell technology.
Commercial value depends on whether the technology can be made reliably, repeatedly and cost-effectively. That makes manufacturing validation a key milestone for companies developing next-generation batteries.
UKBIC, the UK’s national battery manufacturing development facility, helps companies move from laboratory development towards industrial production. Its facilities allow battery developers to test processes on equipment designed for larger-scale manufacturing. This gives companies a better understanding of how their technology may perform outside the lab and what issues need to be addressed before major capital is committed.
Ilika has used UKBIC’s facilities through its BUS100, SiSTEM and PRIMED programmes. This work has supported the development of manufacturing processes for the company’s Goliath pouch cell technology, with a focus on scale-up, process control and production readiness.
