Great Portland Estates plc (LON:GPE) has announced that Camden Council has resolved to grant planning permission for the high-quality refurbishment of Whittington House, WC1, subject to completing a legal agreement.
Located in the heart of the West End, close to the Tottenham Court Road Elizabeth Line station, the 74,500 sq ft HQ building provides GPE with an exciting opportunity to create an outstanding HQ workspace, which will feature its iconic Richard Seifert & Partners design. The development will deliver eight floors of sustainable offices with market-leading amenity and a new rooftop terrace and pavilion, fronting onto the newly pedestrianised Alfred Place.
With Whittington House, the recently acquired Gable Building, the Courtyard Building, and the existing holdings at 31/34 Alfred Place, we have the potential to create a 220,000 sq ft cluster of Grade A Fully Managed and HQ space. This is located just minutes from Tottenham Court Road station and the Elizabeth Line, offering customers a wide range of exceptional workspaces whilst delivering operational efficiencies for GPE.
The repositioned building will be delivered in Q1 2027.
Trevor Phyo, Senior Development Manager at Great Portland Estates commented: “Securing planning permission from Camden Council marks a significant milestone for this project. We’re proud to be breathing new life into this building, recognising its architectural heritage, and transforming it into a standout workplace that reflects the future of office design. This development strengthens our HQ portfolio and reinforces our commitment to delivering exceptional spaces in prime London locations.”
