Glencore appoint Kalidas Madhavpeddi as an Independent Non-Executive Director

Glencore plc (LON:GLEN) has today announced the appointment of Kalidas Madhavpeddi as an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Company with immediate effect.

Kalidas Madhavpeddi has over 30 years of experience in the international mining industry, including being CEO of China Molybdenum International (China Moly) from 2008 to 2018. He started his career at Phelps Dodge, where he worked from 1980 to 2006, ultimately becoming Senior Vice President responsible for the company’s global business development, acquisitions and divestments, as well as its global exploration programs.  He was contemporaneously President of Phelps Dodge Wire & Cable, a global downstream fabricator of aluminium and copper for the motor, electrical and automotive industries.

Mr Madhavpeddi has degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India and the University of Iowa and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Commenting on the new appointment, Tony Hayward, Chairman, stated:

His experience includes substantial involvement in operations and business dealings with both Phelps Dodge and China Moly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Glencore discloses that, in accordance with paragraph 9.6.13R of the UKLA’s Listing Rules, Mr. Madhavpeddi is currently a director of Novagold Resources and Trilogy Metals, which are listed on the TSX. During the previous five years he was also director and chair of the governance committee of Capstone Mining (TSX).
