Cora Gold is positioned to benefit from continued development of Mali’s gold industry as the country works to expand formal production, improve regulation and attract further mining investment. The company operates within one of Africa’s most established gold-producing jurisdictions, giving it exposure to a market where project development, permitting and sector reform remain central to future growth.
Mali is aiming to maintain annual gold production above 60 metric tonnes while tightening oversight of both large-scale and artisanal mining. That creates a clearer operating backdrop for companies such as Cora Gold, particularly as the government moves to formalise more of the country’s gold sector.
The establishment of the Malian Office of Precious Substances in July 2026 is part of that process. The new body is responsible for regulating artisanal and small-scale mining, including site registration, environmental standards, safety, taxation and gold traceability.
Mali’s artisanal sector is substantial, with close to two million people estimated to work across around 400 informal mining sites. Bringing more of that activity into the formal economy could improve oversight, reduce uncertainty and strengthen the wider structure of the country’s gold industry.
For Cora Gold, a more clearly regulated mining environment could support project planning and reduce some of the uncertainty attached to operating in the jurisdiction. Regulatory stability, fiscal terms and licence security remain important risks, but progress towards a more organised sector would improve the framework in which new gold projects are assessed and financed.
Gold prices also remain supportive of development activity across Africa. Stronger pricing can improve project economics, increase the value of discovered ounces and widen access to development capital.
African Mining Week 2026, taking place in Cape Town from 14 to 16 October, is expected to bring these issues into sharper focus. Discussions around expanding African gold output, improving governance and mobilising capital are directly relevant to companies seeking to progress projects in established gold regions.
Cora Gold Ltd (LON:CORA), together with its subsidiaries, explores for and develops mineral projects in West Africa. The company primarily explores for gold deposits. Its flagship project is the Sanankoro Gold project located in the Yanfolila Gold Belt, Southern Mali.
