RM Technology says schools are facing growing technology demands in 2026, with mobile phone restrictions, cyber security risks and digital access among the key issues affecting education providers.
The UK’s mobile phone ban for state-funded schools came into effect on 1 September 2026. Schools now need practical systems for managing pupils’ devices and ensuring that restrictions can be applied consistently. RM Technology is addressing this requirement as part of its wider education technology offering.
Cyber security is another immediate concern. Schools are handling increasing amounts of digital information and connected technology, leaving them exposed to threats including phishing attacks, malicious USB devices and QR-code scams. RM Technology recommends measures including regular backups, multi-factor authentication and protective DNS to help reduce these risks.
Access to technology is also an issue. RM Technology is working with the Digital Poverty Alliance to improve access to devices for pupils who may otherwise struggle to obtain the technology needed for education. The company is also working with Tech She Can and STEM Learning UK on initiatives designed to encourage young people to consider careers in technology.
Alongside these initiatives, RM Technology supplies schools with laptops, software licences, interactive displays and other education technology through its technology store. The company also provides support for schools buying and deploying technology.
