RM Technology strengthens its education partnerships through applied STEM

RM Technology’s role in the Race Team of the Future project shows how the company is using practical, partner-led activity to deepen its relevance with schools and multi-academy trusts.

The event brought 60 Year 9 and Year 10 students from Fairfax Academy, Erdington Academy, Smith’s Wood Academy and Bournville School to Donington Park Circuit on 17 April. All four schools are part of Fairfax Multi Academy Trust. The project was hosted by Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport, MBP, HP with Intel and RM Technology.

RM Technology is positioning itself around the real needs of education customers: stronger digital skills, more engaging STEM learning and clearer links between the curriculum and future careers. Schools and trusts are increasingly focused on showing pupils where classroom learning can lead, particularly in technology, engineering, data and design.

The day used motorsport as the context. Students worked in 10 teams and explored the operations behind a professional race team. They looked at a British Touring Car Championship racing car, considered the role of complex data and completed a driver protection challenge, using an egg to represent the driver. The task required students to apply design and technology skills in a practical setting.

That hands-on approach is relevant to RM Technology’s market position. It shows the company working beyond standard technology supply and support, helping schools create experiences that make digital tools more meaningful. Students later developed their own Race Team of the Future concepts, including team names, logos, values, business plans and technical innovations. HP technology was used to bring those ideas to life.

Students rotated through varied tasks, giving them little downtime and keeping the focus on active participation. For education leaders, this type of format can help demonstrate impact. For RM Technology, it supports a customer relationship based on outcomes, not just infrastructure.
