Opening the weekend market window for CMC Markets

CMC Markets Plc

CMC Markets has taken another step in extending access across its platform with the launch of weekend gold trading for spread betting and CFD clients. The new product, listed as Gold – Weekend, allows clients to trade gold when the underlying spot and futures markets are closed.

CMC is continuing to position itself around availability, flexibility and broader market coverage at a time when client expectations are shifting beyond traditional trading hours. Markets increasingly react to political events, macro headlines and cross-asset moves at all hours, and firms able to offer clients more ways to respond may be better placed to retain engagement and capture activity that might otherwise drift elsewhere.

The timing is also notable because CMC is not presenting weekend gold as a standalone addition. The move follows the recent rollout of 24/5 trading on around 250 US shares and ETFs for spread betting and CFD clients, with further expansion planned.

Gold is a logical market through which to extend that strategy. The metal remains widely used as a hedging and risk management instrument, particularly during periods of uncertainty or rapid repricing across global markets. By making a weekend version available, CMC is addressing a gap between client demand for responsiveness and the limited hours of the underlying market.

Extended-hours access is becoming more common across online trading, particularly in US equities, and CMC’s latest move shows it is seeking to remain active in that race rather than concede ground. Weekend gold adds a differentiating layer within a familiar asset class, while reinforcing the broader message that the company wants clients to see its platform as a place for timely reaction across different market conditions.

CMC Markets plc (LON:CMCX) is a UK-based financial services company that offers online trading in shares, spread betting, contracts for difference and foreign exchange across world markets.
