Meridian Holdings will use the 2026 SBC Summit in Lisbon to highlight its position in Africa’s regulated online gaming market, with Chairman and Chief Financial Officer William Scott scheduled to speak on the region’s growth and regulatory development.
The summit runs from 29 September to 1 October at the Feira Internacional de Lisboa. Scott will join a panel focused on Africa’s online betting and gaming sector, covering regulation, player behaviour and the shift from unlicensed activity towards regulated operators.
Africa remains an important market for Meridian because its Meridianbet subsidiary already operates across several countries in the region. That existing presence gives the company direct exposure to markets where regulation, payments infrastructure and customer behaviour are developing at different speeds.
The panel will examine opportunities in countries including Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt, Ghana and Uganda. Each market presents different regulatory and commercial conditions, making local knowledge and compliance capabilities important to expansion decisions.
Mobile payments are also expected to be a central part of the discussion. Mobile money has become an important payment method in many African markets, supporting the movement of customers towards online betting and gaming platforms. For operators, the ability to integrate effective payment systems can influence customer acquisition, retention and the overall economics of entering a market.
Meridian’s participation at the summit reinforces its focus on regulated international growth. The group operates across more than 25 regulated markets and has built a structure that combines consumer-facing gaming operations with proprietary technology.
Meridian Holdings plc (formally Golden Matrix Group, Inc.) (Nasdaq:MRDN) positions itself as a leader in the iGaming technology space, offering casino, sportsbook, and competition products and combining cutting-edge solutions with a strong portfolio of partnerships to drive growth and innovation in the digital gaming market.
