Law Debenture combines UK equities with a second source of income

LWDB

Law Debenture (LSE: LWDB) offers investors two sources of potential returns through its UK-focused investment portfolio and its Independent Professional Services (IPS) business. The combination supports its long-term capital growth and dividend objectives, distinguishing it from conventional investment trusts that rely primarily on portfolio income.

The investment portfolio is managed by Janus Henderson and uses a selective approach to stock picking, focusing on company fundamentals, valuations and long-term growth potential. Alongside established dividend-paying businesses, the portfolio can include companies that reinvest profits to support future growth.

The IPS business provides professional services to pension schemes, bond issuers and other companies. Its activities include pension trustee services, corporate trust services and outsourced corporate support. Unlike the investment portfolio, which is exposed to movements in listed share prices, IPS generates revenue through fees for its services.

At the end of 2025, IPS represented approximately 16% of Law Debenture’s net asset value, while the investment portfolio accounted for around 84%. Despite its smaller contribution to NAV, IPS funded roughly one-third of the dividends paid over the preceding decade, providing an additional source of income.

Law Debenture reported an 11.4% net asset value total return in the first half of 2026, compared with 7.2% for the FTSE All-Share benchmark. Its share price total return was 16.2% over the same period.

The trust also has a long record of dividend growth, reporting 47 consecutive years of increasing or maintaining its dividend in its 2025 annual results. The combination of investment returns and professional services income supports its objective of delivering long-term capital growth in real terms alongside steadily increasing income.

Law Debenture Corporation plc (LON:LWDB) provides a wider range of services including corporate and pension trusts, process agent services, treasury management, corporate services including for special purpose vehicles, structured finance administration and whistleblowing services.
