Ilika Plc Pre-launch samples of mm-scale Stereax® batteries shipped

Ilika plc

Ilika plc (LON:IKA), the advanced solid-state battery technology and materials innovation company, announced today that it has commenced shipment of pre-launch evaluation samples of its mm-scale Stereax® batteries.

It’s mm-scale battery, code-named Golden Hind, is designed for miniature medical implants, which account for about 50% of the current commercial opportunities in Ilika’s licensing pipeline. The cells are fabricated on standard semiconductor industry wafers usingthe company’s proprietary vacuum deposition technique. The cells are etched from the materials deposited on the wafer and singulated using standard industry back-end processing techniques. lIika has developed the materials and process technologies to make these cells on its pilot line in Southampton, UK and to align with customer demands.

Shipments have now commenced to global OEM commercial partners in the USA and Asia, developing mass-market medical products that benefit from the unique properties of these cells including mm-scale dimensions, intrinsically-safe solid-state biocompatibility and long lifecycle.

Golden Hind prototypes are currently undergoing parallel evaluation at the company’s facility to fully qualify the cells for a product launch in early 2019.

The Golden Hind product is the latest in the Stereax® product portfolio that includes the M250 (for smart home automation) and the P180 (for deployments at temperatures up to 150 degC in industrial environments).

Ilika plc has world class expertise in accelerated materials innovation, including in the automotive, aeronautical and electronic components sectors. Global brands such as Rolls-Royce and Toyota have long-term collaborations with Ilika. High throughput technology enables functional materials to be made, characterised and tested up to 100 times faster than traditional techniques. Robust datasets enhance intellectual property value, optimise product performance and reduce time to market, thereby maximising return on R&D investment.
