Hercules Academy expands training capacity as contract wins support UK growth

Hercules Academy is increasing its training capacity as it builds on £310,000 of funded training awards and expands delivery across the UK.

The Academy has secured contracts through Warwickshire County Council to provide training for new entrants to construction and Level 3 qualifications for existing workers. It has also joined the West Midlands Combined Authority Preferred Provider List, giving it access to a wider platform for funded skills delivery.

The awards strengthen Hercules Academy’s position in a market where workforce availability remains a significant constraint for construction and infrastructure projects. Increasing the number of trained workers can support project delivery, reduce pressure on labour supply and give Hercules PLC greater exposure to the growing demand for vocational skills.

The Academy is also adding delivery capacity with the appointment of Michael Quigley to its training team. Quigley brings experience in construction, civil engineering and plant machinery and will work with both new entrants and existing operatives looking to develop their qualifications.

His appointment adds practical sector experience at a point when Hercules Academy is seeking to widen its reach. He will work alongside quality manager Paul Clarke and Academy operations manager David Vaughan as the organisation expands its training activity, including further prison education provision and delivery in new areas of the UK.

The move supports a broader strategy across Hercules PLC to address skills shortages in construction and infrastructure. The company highlighted the scale of the issue in its Skills White Paper, published in June 2026, and has continued to position training as part of its response.

A larger project pipeline requires a larger and better-qualified workforce. Without enough skilled workers, contractors can face delays, higher labour costs and greater pressure on project execution. Hercules Academy gives the group a direct way to increase workforce capacity by training new entrants and helping existing workers gain further qualifications.

Hercules plc (LON:HERC) is a collaborative, innovative company delivering services of the highest standards within the Civil Engineering sector of the construction industry. Hercules Academy provides a comprehensive range of courses designed to equip individuals with the essential skills and knowledge required for a long and successful career in the construction industry.
