Global Opportunities Trust seeks value beyond AI-focused stocks

GOT

Global Opportunities Trust invests across global markets, targeting undervalued assets and opportunities beyond the most popular investment themes.

In an October 2026 interview, fund manager Alan Bartlett discussed the trust’s investment strategy, including stock selection, downside protection and opportunities outside the largest market trends.

The trust has a flexible investment mandate, allowing its managers to allocate capital across different markets and asset classes according to valuations and investment opportunities rather than tracking a specific stock market index.

While artificial intelligence has attracted significant investor interest, the trust also looks for opportunities in businesses that have received less attention. Its approach focuses on company fundamentals, asset values and earnings potential.

Japan is one area of interest, including property companies trading below the value of their underlying assets and smaller businesses focused on domestic markets. Defence and healthcare are also areas of interest, where government spending, demographic changes and demand for services can influence long-term growth.

The trust incorporates downside protection into its portfolio construction, aiming to reduce dependence on broad equity market movements during periods of market weakness. However, this approach cannot eliminate the risk of investment losses.

The strategy focuses on identifying investments where market valuations do not fully reflect the underlying business or assets. Its flexible mandate allows the portfolio to change as opportunities and market conditions develop.

Global Opportunities Trust plc (LON:GOT) invests globally in undervalued asset classes without reference to the composition of any stock market index.
