Game Plan turns high-performance lessons into a scalable education platform

RICA

Ruffer is supporting Game Plan, an education initiative that turns lessons from high achievers into practical resources for young people.

Developed by the High Performance Foundation, Game Plan draws on conversations from the High Performance Podcast with people working in sport, business, entertainment and other demanding fields. The programme identifies six mindsets that repeatedly influence how individuals respond to pressure, setbacks and opportunity.

Ruffer’s involvement connects the investment manager with a programme focused on long-term personal development. The initiative is designed to help young people build resilience, self-awareness, responsibility, collaboration and problem-solving skills before they enter further education or the workplace.

The programme starts from a direct premise. Talent alone is not enough. Progress also depends on behaviours that can be learned and strengthened through practice.

Game Plan converts this idea into classroom material. Instead of relying on general motivational messages, it uses real experiences to show how successful people have dealt with failure, uncertainty and demanding situations. This makes the lessons easier to understand and gives schools a structured way to discuss skills that are not always covered by traditional academic subjects.

The programme addresses risks that can affect young people’s future readiness. These include fear of failure, difficulty managing pressure and limited confidence when making decisions. Helping pupils develop stronger mental and interpersonal skills at an earlier stage may improve how they approach education, employment and wider responsibilities.
