Experian expands ChatGPT access to personal credit data

FGT

Experian is giving UK consumers access to their personal credit score through ChatGPT, extending its use of artificial intelligence as a direct channel for financial information and product discovery.

The new service allows users to view their Experian Credit Score inside the Experian app within ChatGPT. Users can also see how their score is calculated, review their score history and check which score band they fall into. The integration also supports current account comparison within ChatGPT, bringing more of Experian’s consumer-facing services into a single conversational interface.

The move from general information to personalised data increases the commercial relevance of the channel because users can now access information directly linked to their own financial profile. Experian has built the service around authenticated access. Personal credit score information is only available when users are logged in, and the data is not used by the underlying AI model to generate responses.

Privacy remains a central issue as financial companies expand the use of generative AI. Experian’s approach allows it to test demand for AI-based access without giving the model direct access to personal credit data.

The company is also responding to signs that consumers are already using AI tools for financial guidance. Experian’s research found that almost two-thirds of regular ChatGPT users use AI to help achieve financial goals. It also found strong stated interest in an Experian service within ChatGPT, while data privacy was the main factor affecting trust.

Experian already plays a large role in UK lending decisions, including credit card applications. Extending its services into ChatGPT gives the company a way to maintain that position as consumer behaviour shifts towards conversational interfaces.
