European stocks rose on Monday as lower oil prices and gains in banking shares supported markets ahead of a busy week of corporate earnings.
The pan-European STOXX 600 rose 0.56% to 635.09 points by 0843 GMT on 12 October 2026. Spain’s IBEX led regional markets, gaining 1.1%, while the STOXX 600 banking index advanced 1.5%.
Oil prices fell after US President Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to halt attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure, following a US-Russian diesel supply deal. The decline in oil prices helped support European equities.
Investors are now focused on third-quarter earnings to assess corporate performance amid geopolitical uncertainty and elevated borrowing costs. Luxury goods group LVMH was due to report results after European markets closed on Monday, while semiconductor equipment manufacturer ASML and investment firm EQT were scheduled to publish results later in the week.
Eurozone government bond yields also eased, offering some support to equities. However, yields remained near multi-year highs as investors continued to assess the prospect of interest rates staying elevated for longer. Markets expected the European Central Bank to hold rates at its October meeting, while pricing in the possibility of a quarter-point increase in December.
