Drax backs Selby partnership, strengthening local access and opportunity

Drax Group plc

Drax has joined a new strategic partnership in Selby aimed at improving how local residents access support, employment pathways and essential services, a move that carries broader relevance for investors assessing the group’s regional positioning and community relationships.

The initiative, known as Selby Connected, brings together organisations from the private, public and voluntary sectors to tackle persistent barriers affecting people across Selby and nearby villages. Drax is helping lead the partnership alongside Up for Yorkshire, with the stated goal of creating a more joined-up local network that can improve access to information, services and opportunities over the longer term.

The company is aligning itself with a practical, place-based programme designed to address issues that can shape local labour availability, social cohesion and the broader operating environment around one of its most visible UK assets.

Research cited by the partnership found that fewer than one in three Selby residents know where to access financial advice and support, despite a range of services already being available locally. Awareness of specialist employment support, including skills training and work experience opportunities, was reported to be below a quarter of residents.

Drax Group plc (LON:DRX), trading as Drax, is a power generation business. The principal downstream enterprises are based in the UK and include Drax Power Limited, which runs the biomass fuelled Drax power station, near Selby in North Yorkshire.
