Corero makes the business case for cyber resilience

Corero Network Security

Corero Network Security says cyber resilience should be explained as a business continuity issue, not an IT issue. The core question is simple: what happens if a critical digital service stops working?

An outage can interrupt revenue, block customer access, delay transactions and increase support costs. It can also create service-level penalties, damage customer confidence and force senior management to respond before the technical cause is clear.

Corero argues that companies should start with the service being protected. This may be an ecommerce platform, customer portal, payment system, cloud service or employee access network.

The next step is to measure the impact of disruption. Companies can look at hourly revenue, transaction volumes, customer numbers, support demand and contractual obligations. They can also consider the cost of staff time, service credits and customer loss. This turns cyber resilience into a clearer investment decision. Management can compare the cost of protection with the potential cost of downtime.

The same approach applies to technical weaknesses. A slow manual response increases the time before an attack is contained. An overloaded firewall can become a point of failure. Limited reporting can make it harder to explain an incident. Broad traffic blocking can stop legitimate users as well as attackers.

Corero says the strongest business case should identify the service at risk, the current weakness, the likely impact and the action required.

More accurate mitigation can keep legitimate traffic moving. Better reporting can improve communication with customers and management. Resilient deployment can reduce dependence on a single system. Managed support can reduce pressure on internal teams.

Corero’s SmartWall ONE is a modular DDoS protection platform designed to detect and mitigate attacks in real time. SecureWatch Analytics provides monitoring and reporting. The Service Portal gives service providers a way to show customers attack activity and protection status. SecureWatch Managed Services adds external monitoring and response support.

Corero Network Security plc (LON:CNS) is a global provider of automated business continuity and network security solutions.
