CMC Markets brings ChatGPT into its trading platform

CMC Markets is bringing ChatGPT into its trading platform, giving UK CFD clients a new way to access account and market information through natural language.

The integration allows clients to connect selected CMC CFD accounts with ChatGPT and ask questions about their trading activity without navigating through multiple areas of the platform. Users can retrieve account balances, account values, open positions and pending orders, as well as supported market prices and historical information.

The first version is read-only. ChatGPT cannot place, amend or cancel orders, open or close positions, transfer funds or make other changes to a CMC account. Trading therefore remains within CMC’s existing platform, while the new integration is focused on accessing and summarising information.

For CMC Markets, this creates a relatively contained way to introduce generative AI into the client experience. The company can apply its existing account and market data to a conversational interface without initially giving the technology control over trading activity. That keeps the operational scope of the launch focused while providing a framework for further AI development.

Clients can use prompts to check their account balance, review current positions, identify pending orders and access market information. The integration also supports requests such as checking the latest GBP/USD price and reviewing historical chart data for supported instruments.

CMC Markets is linking the launch to its broader investment in AI and cloud technology. The company says the integration is intended to make financial information easier to access while creating a foundation for additional AI-enabled functionality.

Rather than introducing AI as a separate product, the company is using it as an additional interface for information already available through its trading infrastructure. This allows the initial rollout to focus on usability and access while keeping execution and account changes within established systems.

CMC Markets plc (LON:CMCX) is a UK-based financial services company that offers online trading in shares, spread betting, contracts for difference and foreign exchange across world markets.
