Ampeak advances AW1 battery project as £7.8m investment strengthens growth plans

Ampeak-Energy

Ampeak Energy is making further progress with its AW1 battery storage project, while a £7.8 million investment in the project has strengthened its liquidity and provided additional funding for the company’s wider development portfolio.

Construction of AW1 continued during the first half of 2026, with the project progressing in line with its programme. Ampeak retained a controlling 50.6% interest after JB Energy acquired a 24.7% stake in AW1 Storage Holdings for £7.8 million following the period end. The transaction provides additional funding while also demonstrating external investor support for the project’s value.

The investment is particularly significant for Ampeak’s growth plans because part of the proceeds has been allocated to the planned expansion of AW1. The company is working towards increasing the project’s capacity from 240MWh to 480MWh, with financial close expected next year.

AW1 is being developed at Ampeak’s Uskmouth Sustainable Energy Park and represents the company’s transition from project developer towards becoming an owner and operator of energy infrastructure. The project remains the cornerstone of its battery storage strategy, with construction continuing alongside work on the wider portfolio.

Ampeak also has planning-consented projects at Uskmouth and MeyGen, providing a pipeline for future development. Management is assessing further opportunities that could complement the existing portfolio and increase the company’s exposure to battery storage and other sustainable energy infrastructure.

Ampeak expects battery storage demand to increase as renewable electricity generation expands and power markets become more reliant on flexible storage capacity. The company is therefore building its portfolio around infrastructure designed to provide storage capacity alongside increasing renewable generation.

Ampeak Energy Limited (LON:AMP) a developer, owner and operator of sustainable energy projects. Transitioning to become a major Independent Power Producer (IPP) with a project development arm specialising in Battery Storage and Tidal Stream generation.
