Verici Dx has published new health economic evidence showing that its Pre-Transplant Risk Assessment, or PTRA, test could deliver substantial cost savings in kidney transplant care.
The analysis, conducted by Avalon Health Economics, found that using PTRA in standard-risk kidney transplant patients in the United States could generate more than $191 million in healthcare savings over two years.
The study strengthens the commercial case for the test by linking clinical risk assessment with a clear economic benefit. PTRA is designed to identify a patient’s risk of early acute rejection before a kidney transplant, allowing clinicians to tailor immunosuppressive treatment more closely to individual risk.
The test uses a 29-gene RNA signature associated with biological pathways involved in transplant rejection. Its purpose is to help clinicians distinguish between patients who may require stronger immunosuppression and those who may be suitable for lower treatment intensity.
Immunosuppressive therapy involves a balance between preventing rejection and limiting treatment-related complications. More intensive therapy can increase the risk of infections and adverse drug effects, while insufficient treatment can raise the risk of rejection.
PTRA is intended to support more precise decision-making before transplantation. Lower-risk patients may be able to avoid unnecessary exposure to higher levels of immunosuppression, while higher-risk patients can be identified for closer management and more intensive treatment.
The economic analysis suggests this more targeted approach could reduce costs associated with both rejection and complications from excessive immunosuppression. This gives Verici Dx an additional argument for adoption beyond the clinical utility of the test itself.
