Valeura Energy is reinforcing its stop work authority programme, giving employees and contractors the responsibility to stop any activity they believe is unsafe.
The programme applies to all workers, both onshore and offshore, regardless of their role or experience. Anyone who identifies an unsafe condition, action, inadequate safety control or potential risk can stop the job so the issue can be reviewed.
Chief Executive Officer Sean Guest stressed that safety takes precedence over seniority. Workers should feel confident challenging unsafe practices and raising concerns, even when this means questioning a supervisor or more experienced colleague.
Chief Operating Officer Greg Kulski reiterated that safety must be a precondition for all work. If a task does not appear safe or has not been properly planned, workers should stop the activity while the team reviews the situation and makes the necessary changes.
Tilak Niteswaran, President and Country Manager for Thailand, confirmed that work should only resume once the team has discussed the concern and agreed that it is safe to proceed.
Valeura Energy Inc (TSX:VLE) is an upstream oil & gas company, with a clear strategy to add value for shareholders.
