Hydrated lime supports core industrial processing demand

Firering Strategic Minerals plc

Hydrated lime is an important industrial material used across chemical processing, water treatment, emissions control, sugar refining, paper production, cement, steel and power generation.

The product, also known as calcium hydroxide, is valued for its alkalinity, reactivity, availability and ease of use. These qualities make it useful for neutralising acids, adjusting pH, removing impurities and supporting chemical reactions. That gives hydrated lime a practical role in day-to-day industrial operations, rather than relying only on project-based demand.

In water and wastewater treatment, hydrated lime is used to neutralise acidic water, soften hard water and remove contaminants such as lead, arsenic and chromium.

In flue gas treatment, hydrated lime helps remove sulphur dioxide, neutralise acidic gases and reduce harmful emissions before they enter the atmosphere. This connects demand to power generation, cement, steel and other heavy industries that need effective air pollution control.

Chemical manufacturers use hydrated lime to maintain pH levels, support reactions and remove unwanted impurities. In these settings, consistency and reliability matter, as process disruption can affect output quality and operating costs.

The sugar industry uses hydrated lime to clarify sugarcane juice by neutralising organic acids and removing impurities before crystallisation. Paper and pulp producers use it in chemical recovery, pulp treatment, wastewater handling and brightness improvement.
