Battery & Energy Storage Tech Europe 2026 will take place at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue on 8 and 9 September, bringing together companies, researchers, policymakers and industry organisations from across the battery and energy storage market.
The event will combine a conference, exhibition and networking programme. Around 50 companies are expected to exhibit, while close to 100 organisations will take part across the wider event.
The agenda is built around four main areas: industrial and emerging applications, battery energy storage systems, recycling and second-life technologies, and policy and regulation. These themes reflect the main factors shaping the sector’s development, including financing, commercial scale, supply security, technology risk and regulatory compliance.
Early sessions will focus on Europe’s battery manufacturing base and the need to build a more competitive regional ecosystem. The programme will examine investment flows, access to early-stage capital and the challenges facing battery start-ups and scale-ups. It will also cover the outlook for European gigafactories and the role of research in supporting industrial growth.
Battery companies require significant capital, long development periods and clear routes to commercial scale. Businesses that secure funding, strengthen supply chains and meet technical milestones are likely to be better placed as the market develops. Delays in financing, production or regulation could increase risk.
Battery energy storage systems will be another major focus. Sessions will examine project deployment, technology selection and the conditions needed to make storage assets commercially viable. Developers and industry representatives will discuss how projects can move from planning to operation and what is required to secure finance.
The programme will also cover new battery chemistries. These include flow batteries, zinc-based technologies, solid-state batteries and other alternatives to established lithium-ion systems. The commercial case for these technologies will depend on cost, safety, performance and production readiness.
The speaker line-up includes representatives from EDP Renewables, Neoen, Basquevolt, Ilika, Blue Current and the Volta Foundation, alongside European industry bodies, public agencies and research centres.
